Sony A6000 review

Sony A6000

Mirrorless. A compact camera without a mirror and with live view. The small size in particular is popular with many. System cameras are not SLR cameras, but they do offer the same functions. Because there is no mirror in a system camera, the body can stay much smaller. Considerable savings can also be made on weight. This makes a system camera perfect for taking anywhere quickly. To work, if you are going to walk the dog or even while running. That of course does not apply to all mirrorless cameras, some are somewhat larger than others. The Sony A6000 ICL system camera is of a fairly small size. It fits perfectly in your pocket. If I go somewhere quickly, I always take the A6000 with me. That way you will never miss that moment when you actually wanted to have a camera with you.

The Sony A6000 is a middle class camera where image quality and especially speed are paramount. The camera has been on the market for some time, but it is certainly not less. For those who go even further back and know the Sony NEX line…, the Alpha A6000 is the successor to that. The Sony A6000 is currently the most popular camera in its price range. Like its predecessors in the NEX series, it has an APS-C sensor. What does this mean? Put simply, this means that the sensor is smaller than a full-frame sensor. About 1.5 times smaller. The full-frame sensor format is generally used as the standard. A somewhat smaller sensor has its advantages and disadvantages.

The advantage of a somewhat smaller sensor is that it makes everything smaller. The body becomes smaller, the lenses become smaller and the weight therefore becomes less. Also not unimportant; the price of APS-C lenses is also lower than full-frame lenses. In terms of image quality, APS-C cameras are just as good as full-frame cameras in many respects, depending on the lens. What are the disadvantages then? They are hardly there in themselves. Of course you have to compromise on your image quality in some aspects, but this is almost unnoticeable for the average photographer. For example, your ISO performance and dynamic range are slightly less. The Sony A6000 kit comes with interchangeable 16-50 lens and 1 battery. Almost all the photos in this blog are made with the 16-50 mm!

Samsung S10e Review

The Galaxy S10e is a handy, affordable version of Samsung’s latest flagship. Do the limitations in camera and power outweigh the lower suggested retail price? You can read that in our Samsung Galaxy S10e review.

Read our Samsung Galaxy S10e review
Earlier this spring we already discussed the Samsung S10 and S10 Plus in an extensive review, but this year Samsung came up with no less than three variants. Although the differences between the S10 and S10 Plus are relatively small, the S10e does quite a few things differently. That is why we discuss this new variant in a separate review.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e is the cheapest model in the S10 series. To limit costs, Samsung has made some adjustments. For example, the device does not have a fingerprint scanner in the screen and lacks the optical zoom lens on the back. The device is currently almost 400 euros cheaper than the Galaxy S10 Plus. Small in size and price: a successful combination?

Design: large screen, compact housing
Although the Galaxy S10e has a relatively large 5.8-inch screen, it is still one of the smallest smartphones from the Galaxy S series in years. This is due to the very narrow screen edges. Almost the entire front consists of images. Below is a narrow black bar, at the top right a small hole for the selfie camera. As a result, the Galaxy S10e is even slightly smaller than the Galaxy S6 and S7, while they have a much more compact 5.1-inch screen. The device can easily be used with one hand and fits a lot better in your pocket than the 6.4 inch Galaxy S10 Plus.

There is one significant difference in design between the S10e and its big brothers: the screen is not curved. Instead of it continuing into the side, it is just flat. That may look a little less stylish, but it is a lot more practical. On the S10 Plus, I regularly accidentally touched a corner of the screen with the palm of my hand. This does not occur on the S10e.

Google Home Review

Google Assistant has been supported in Dutch since October 2018. This is great: with this you can finally communicate Dutch with your smart speakers that are equipped with this Google voice assistant. Google itself has a line with speakers: the Google Home smart speakers. Although there are four different models, this regular variant is a frequently made choice for a smart home.

Recently I have examined this Google Home extensively. Among other things, I looked at the possibilities and design of this Google smart speaker. Curious about my opinion? Then immediately read my Google Home review or go directly to my conclusion.

Google Home
The most popular smart speaker at the moment is Google Home. This model is a nice addition to a smart home.

Google Home support
First, let’s look at the Google Home support. I zoom in on the voice assistant options and the support in the field of language! Here I not only look at the smart speaker itself, but also the support of Google itself and the activity of the user community.

Voice assistant: Google Assistant
Google Assistant is used under the hood of the Google Home, as we can of course expect from Google. You can arrange all kinds of things with Google Assistant and actually use it as a personal assistant. In addition, you can also use the assistant perfectly for operating devices, which I will elaborate on later in the possibilities.

With support, however, I also look at the community. What can you expect in the event of any problems? Fortunately, Google itself has an extensive user community, where you will find immediate answers to possible problems nine out of ten times. Of course you can always send me a message.

Language: Dutch
It is important to know whether you can communicate in your own language. Although almost everyone assumes that Google Assistant is now always Dutch, this is incorrect. For example, the Google Home Hub and the Google Home Max are also equipped with Google Assistant, but this cannot be communicated in Dutch yet.

Fortunately with the regular Google Home! You can speak Dutch with this since October 2018 (question and answer). Last year Google rolled out an update and it was also the introduction of this Google Home speaker.
